It is important to know how to perform spot removal. It would be best to clean the spill up as soon as possible. Do not rub or scrub the spot. This will only spread the stain and damage the fibers of the carpet. If the spill sits for an extended time it will be harder to clean up. There are store bought solutions that you can use or you can have a few items on hand and make your own.

Having your carpet professionally cleaned is a lot easier than trying to clean it yourself. A professional carpet cleaner not only cleans your carpet but also can clear the carpet of any allergens that may be lurking in those fibers.

Now there are a few easy solutions you can make in just a few minutes that are cheaper than store bought solutions. The stain will determine what solution will work best. Knowing how to perform spot removal will go a long way in finding good cleaning solutions.

Dish liquid or detergent with water will also give you the same results. Add a little vinegar and this solution will remove soda and coffee stains. Use a paper towel or a terry cloth towel and blot the stain. Do not scrub. It will only spread the liquid out. Once you have absorbed as much liquid as possible. Add your solution and blot. Let the solution sit for a few minutes. Use a clean towel to absorb the cleaning solution. Now your carpet is stain free.

**How To Remove Pet Stains On Carpet and Upholstery

We love our pets in Texas. In fact, they are more often than not, like family members to us. And let’s face it, pet accidents are some of those things that occasionally will happen-It goes along with our Furry Family members. That’s why being well-informed, and well-equipped, will hopefully keep you, your sanity, and your home and pets happy and content.

Having pets indoors can often be a challenge but there are several great products available on the market, that will help treat, and even in most cases, eliminate pet stains and odors, on carpet and upholstery, and do it safely. What you need to do is, choose a product that will remove and neutralize not only the stain, but the odor. Not merely mask it!

This is vital, as you know how well pets can smell, even the smallest of trace odors of the stained area. This is why they will often eliminate in the same spot or area, also called “marking.”

Types of Pet Stain/Odor Removers

Some pet stain removers are chemical based, and are highly concentrated, and they are generally used with professional steam cleaning machines. They can be in liquid form, or in a foam base, that has a “lifting” action, that when dry, it is vacuumed up. Some homemade, and less effective cleaners are made from baking soda, and white distilled vinegar. However, improperly applied homemade cleaners, and even some chemical based cleaners can make the situation worse, and permanently bond the pet proteins in the urine to the fibers being cleaned. They may also stain certain types of carpet and upholstery. Use with care.

The most effective pet stain removers use enzymes that neutralize and effectively remove the proteins that are in pet waste. These proteins are the main source of the odor, which are caused by bacteria from the waste. Thankfully, there are several very good enzymatic cleaners that are designed to prevent these proteins from bonding to your stained carpet or fabric. This enzyme action causes the proteins to become “neutralized”, and loosened, allowing complete removal, of both stain and odor, followed by thorough flushing with water, and extraction. Some products with enzymes are made with natural ingredients, such as Bac-out, with ingredients including, grapefruit seed extract, and orange peel. This will leave the treated area with a fresh, pleasing citrus scent.

**Spot Removal Techniques

1.Apply spotting agent to towel rather than directly to the upholstery. This

prevents overwetting and will minimize the chances of forcing the stain

deeper into the fabric where it can cause further problems.

2.Dab the spotting agent unto the stain with the moistened towel.Work

from the outer edge of the stain inward, toward the center to keep the

stain from spreading.

3.For affective blotting action, use pressure from the hand.Avoid the

natural tendency to scrub.

4.Blot dry or use portable hair dryer to avoid “bleeding” of any remaining

staining material.

**Cleaning Tips For Spots And Spills

Dilemma...despite great care, food, beverage and pet accidents happen.

Your best defense against permanent stains is treatment when it

occurs.Remember:Spot Removal Technique is more important than

then the cleaning chemicals used. Here are some important guidelines:

1.Gently Scape…up solids with a spoon, working from the outside of

the spot toward the center to avoid spreading.

2.Blot…the spotted area with a dry white towels.Continue blotting the

area by pressing firmly with the clean portion of the toweling until

there is no more further transfer from the spot. Then begin to use spot

remover chemicals.NOTE:Do not scrub stains.Scrubbing action can

damage the fabric and spread the stain.Use blotting action.

3.Never Soak…upholstery.Over-wetting with cleaning solution or

water will make effective cleaning difficult.Messy spills will spread

and soiled water will seep deep into fabric, cushions and wood

4.Test For Color Fastness…never pour cleaning solution directly on a

spot or spill.Put solution on a white towel and in an inconspicuous

area, apply with blotting action to the upholstery before attempting

to remove the spot.If color from the fabric transfers to the towel,

do not attempt to remove the spot.Call a professional cleaner for

5.Finding the color to be fast, continue blotting with spotting solution
